stigmata target audiance

Stigmata

Target Audience:

The film Stigmata is aimed at people from E-C2 groups of the demographics chart. We know this because it is a religious thriller so therefore would probably not appeal to mangers of companies (group C1 and above).

It is aimed at explorers in the psychographic chart. We know this because this film is very mysterious and you have to watch it to find out if you like it. If you’re not an adventurous person then you’re less likely to enjoy this supernatural film.

Stigmata has a target audience of people aged between 16 and 30. It is aimed at both female and male.

Stigmata has a niche audience because it is only aimed at people who like the horror genre.

Vox Pop

from my Vox Pop I found out that interviewees only seem to watch thrillers on occasions and not all the time. this means when I will be creating my own thriller I will think more about who I will be targeting it at. I found this information out on the "do you watch thrillers?".

on the next question "what's your favourite thriller?" I found out that the films that were most popular were well known to the thriller genre. my results were that Se7en, The Purge, Taken and The Expendables, this shows that different people like different style thriller so when I create my own thriller opening I need to think about a specific style that will fit the target audience that I have chosen.

my final question "what do you expect to be in thrillers" I found out that people want to see tension, action, excitement, jumpy moments, mystery and suspense. this means that in m thriller I will need to think about including these into y thriller so it will fit my target audience well.

Psycho Analysis

Psycho

in this shot from psycho,  the shot is very light and the whiteness of the background and the paleness of her skins show her as being innocent and pure and that she doesn’t deserve to be murdered. This is also a mid-shot which shows the audience her expression and emotions on her face which she is dying.

This shot is a high angle shot; this is to show how vulnerable she is and to show the power of the killer because it’s like he is looking down on her while he brutally murders her. In this shot her nails are also very viable; her red nails could signify that he is a danger to the audience because they could be a signifier for blood. Most of the scene is all white; this would enhance the colour of the blood and make it more visible.

This shot of the plug is an extreme close up to signify that her blood is draining away just like her life is. This close up of the plug whole is a graphic match to the girl’s eye because it would create more of an uncomfortable effect because it would make the audience feel that they in with the film and gets them involved because they could feel that they shouldn’t be that close up to things.

This shot is a cut away from the action ad is of the horrible stormy weather outside. This would match the mood of what is happening inside as it gives the miserable feeling which makes the audience feel miserable as well. This cuts away from the action while she is being killed because it breaks it up and makes it have fast pace and gives the audience the feel of the pace of the feeling.

This is a mid-shot; this shows her just peacefully having a shower. The shower is very loud and over powers the noise of the killer entering the room so she is oblivious to what is going to happen. The shower curtain shows the shadow of the killer but not clearly to show any details at all, this makes the audience more aware of what is going to happen that she is.

This shot is from the woman’s perspective of the killer walking away she is slowly dying, this makes the audience feel like they are more involved with the film and give it tension.  The shot is blurry because this is the way she is seeing from her eyes because she has no energy as she has just been stabbed which makes her eyes fill with water because of the shower. The outside world or neigh boroughs have no clue what has just happened because the shower would of bee to loud for anyone to see her screaming.

The shower is a diegetic noise because that is the sound that is in the scene when they are filming it because it is actually happening. The soundtrack is a non-diegetic sound because it has been edited in because it’s not playing when they are actually filming it and it’s not happening.

At the beginning the shots are very long because nothing exciting is happening but then when the action starts to happen the shots become faster to sync n with the stabbing from the killer.

Preliminary task

My preliminary task evaluation

I feel that my preliminary task went fairly well for my first attempt at something like this. I feel that my overlay of the voice over went well because I got it at the right point that I needed and it was fluent. Also the actual filming and production was successful because we met all the criteria’s and the final film was good.

The improvements that I could have made with my preliminary task would be to add a more variety of shot types but this would have been difficult because of the length of the task as it was only 1 minute long so would have been hard to fit in a variety of different shot .

Jaws Sound Analysis

Jaws sound analysis

The theme tune for jaws is a very nerving and tense sound track  because it gives a big build up to something that is about to happen and it also lets the audience know that something is going to happen which is also what the crescendo does to the music.  Also the base of the music gives it more of a tense feeling because the audience are feeling nervous and they may feel a bit jumpy which would give great effect. The theme tune to jaws is very catching and well-known therefore people will think of the film every time is heard.

opening titles timeline for splice

This is a timeline of the film Splice and this shows when the titles appear in the beginning and what they say. the first few titles give there name of the production and the company names which will tell the audience what sort of genre the film will be if the name is well known and make them think that if they like this film then they might like more films that have been created by them.

The transactions from one shot to another in the opening titles fade in and out slowly, to show the mystery of the film and to fit it in the narrative. the text font was very sharp and bold which will signify the type of thriller it will be. The shots are very dark which will show that most of the film will be a very dark and misty colour. This would signify that the film will be thrilling and maybe scary.
